The battery sensor with negative terminal clamp sits on the negative battery post and connects the battery to the ground cable. It measures battery current, voltage and temperature so the car can control alternator charging and Start-Stop. It is usually replaced when Start-Stop no longer works, the battery is undercharged or a charging warning comes on, battery-sensor fault codes are stored, or the clamp is corroded or broken.
