This balance shaft kit is for the 2.2 4N14 engine in the Mitsubishi ASX and Outlander. On the 4N14 the oil pump is an integral part of the balance shaft unit and cannot be replaced separately, so this kit includes the oil pump. The balance shafts sit low in the engine, are driven from the crankshaft and turn at twice engine speed to cancel the second-order vibration of a four-cylinder engine. It is usually replaced when vibration builds up at certain revs, when the drive gears whine or rattle, when the balance shaft drive coupling wears, heard as a loud ticking from the sump area at idle that fades as revs rise, or when metal particles turn up in the oil. Fits ASX 2.2 and Outlander 2.2 2010–2017, all 4N14 engines from 2010. Part number 1132A018, superseded by 1132A097 and 1132A168; also listed as 1125A202, 1125A253, 1125A281, 1132A026 and 1132A027. On fitting, the shafts must be timed to the crankshaft by the marks. Compare the number on the old part before ordering.
