The EGR valve recirculates a metered portion of exhaust gas back into the intake manifold, reducing combustion temperatures and NOx emissions to meet Euro 6 standards. Carbon deposits accumulate on the valve disc and seat over time, causing the valve to stick open or closed — resulting in rough idle, increased smoke, poor throttle response, and an illuminated engine warning light.
