This negative battery terminal clamps onto the minus post of the battery and carries the earth lead to the body, so every circuit in the car returns through it. It also has an integrated battery sensor that measures battery current, voltage and temperature for the charging and energy management and, where fitted, the stop-start system. Replace it when the clamp is corroded, cracked or will no longer tighten, or when the sensor is faulty. Typical signs are slow or failed starting, flickering lights and random electrical faults, as well as a battery that is not charged properly, a battery or charging warning, stop-start not working or battery-sensor fault codes.
