The ERAD rear differential (rear reduction gearbox) is the mechanical part of the electric rear axle drive. It takes drive from the rear electric motor, reduces its speed and splits it between the rear wheels; the electric motor and inverter are not included. It is usually replaced because of a whine or howl from the rear under electric drive, bearing noise, a clunk, an oil leak or damaged gears. Fits Volvo XC60 from 2018 and XC90 from 2016, T8 Twin Engine / T8 Recharge (plug-in hybrid) only. It is not the conventional AWD rear differential of non-hybrid versions.
