This electronic thermostat is designed for the 1.6 D4FE diesel engine used in Hyundai i30, i40, Kona, Tucson and Kia Ceed, Sportage, Stonic from 2018 onwards. Unlike a conventional wax-element thermostat, this unit is controlled electronically by the ECU, which allows the engine to run at a higher coolant temperature during warm-up to reduce friction losses and fuel consumption, and to lower the temperature under full load to protect against overheating. A failed thermostat causes the engine to run permanently cold, increases fuel consumption and emissions, or leads to overheating if the valve stays closed. OEM reference: 256902U000.
