This coolant control valve (electronic thermostat) sits in the cooling circuit of the 1.5 SKYACTIV-D diesel. It is an electronically controlled valve with a built-in thermostat element, and the engine ECU uses it to regulate coolant flow to the radiator and hold the engine at its target temperature. It is usually replaced when the engine warms up slowly, the heater stays lukewarm, the temperature gauge wanders or runs hot, a fault code turns on the engine light, or coolant weeps from the housing. It fits the Mazda 2, Mazda 3 and CX-3 with the 1.5 SKYACTIV-D only, not petrol SKYACTIV-G engines. Bleed the cooling system afterwards. OEM numbers: S550-15-16ZE and S550-15-16ZC. Compare these with the number on your old part.
