The crankshaft pulley sits on the nose of the crankshaft at the front of the engine and drives the auxiliary (poly-V) belt for the alternator, air-con compressor and other accessories. Its rubber ring works as a torsional vibration damper, soaking up crankshaft vibration before it reaches the belt drive. It is usually replaced when the rubber cracks, bulges or separates and the outer ring wobbles or shifts: vibration, a rumbling or knocking noise from the front of the engine, belt squeal or a belt that keeps coming off. This pulley fits the Mitsubishi ASX 1.8 and 2.2 and the Outlander 2.2, 2010–2017, with 4N13 and 4N14 diesel engines (not for the Outlander II 2.2 with the PSA engine DW12); it is an original Mitsubishi part.
